Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST) - Sulaymani was established and licensed by the Ministry of High Education and Scientific Research in Kurdistan Region Government, on October 18, 2009. KUST is a private university governed by a Board of Trustees and run by an Administration Council. Its main campus is located in the city of Sulaymani, in Kurdistan- Iraq

Komar University of Science and Technology strives to become a leading higher education institution in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq by contributing to the development of the Region and the nation. As a private non-governmental institution, the university seeks to serve the community through the application of advanced science and technology.

The mission of the Komar University of Science and Technology is to contribute to the advancement of society in science and technology and to prepare its graduates to assume a leading role in this endeavor

Hama Jaza(the greatest singer from sulaimani)

 Kurdish most popular singer and famous Peshmerga member Hama Jaza was born in 1949 in Sulaimaniya city, Iraqi Kurdistan region.

 Mr. Jaza served Kurdish culture for nearly four decades as a most prominent Kurdish singer. He got married at the age of 19 and had a family of 6 children, 2 boys and 4 girls.

 Since 1969 Jaza joined Kurdish liberation movement and spent many years in Kurdistan mountains as a Peshmerga member.

In the 1980s, he took part in the new revolution as a Peshmerga member, and he played a great role in this revolution when he recorded many national anthem and songs which encouraged Peshmerga members and ignited their enthusiasm.

 Then after Mr. Jaza along with his family moved to Europe and stayed in Denmark. When the popular Kurdish uprising against Ba’ath regime happened in 1991, he returned to Kurdistan and resided in Sulaymaniyah city.

On 26th October 2009, the Ministry of Culture from Kurdistan Regional Government gave honor prize to Hama Jaza.

After many years of struggling with disease, unfortunately he was died on 1st October 2010 at the age of 61 years.

On the same day and in the presence of a large number of people, his relatives and friends, his body was buried in Sulaymaniyah city.

Sulaimani Museum: It is the second biggest museum after the national museum in Baghdad. It is home to many Kurdish and ancient Persian artifacts dating back to 1792–1750 BC

    Amna Suraka Museum (Kurdish:"Red Intelligence Museum"): Located in a former Ba'ath intelligence headquarters and prison, it draws particular attention to the Ba'ath regime's brutal treatment of local Kurds. Visitors are 
guided through the prisons and interrogation rooms. The museum features many Soviet-era armored fighting vehicles

Sulaimani History

The modern city of Sulaymaniyah was founded on 14 November 1784 by the Kurdish prince Ibrahim Pasha Baban who named it after his father Sulaiman Pasha. Because it was founded as the capital of a powerful Kurdish principality, Sulaymaniyah has developed into a large city with a population of more than 1,500,000 people. It is an important economic center for northern Iraq and has been named the cultural center for Sorani-speaking Kurds continuously since 1992
